Exploring possibilities with open source maps' Safecast
This is a map of Tokyo where data shows concentration of radiation points.
It is both gorgeous and terrifying. The dots remind me of the work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama
We are excited to work with this type of open data as opposed to NASA's satellite images. The story behind Safecast and their mission inspires us: A global sensor network collecting and sharing radiation measurements.
We are exploring ways to rendering these images into high enough resolution images so we can create a fabric that transports this story into the physical world.
More to come soon! We will share our experiments as they develop.
